Issue date 18/07/06. Coin features to the front William Shakespeare and the writing reads 'National Portrait Gallery 1856-2005 & to the rear 'the portrait was a small lighted candle by which the biographies could for the first time be read and some human interpretation be made of them - Carlyle.
